If
you like good ol fashioned rock and roll or finely crafted
pop then
approach with caution, the Twinkeyz are probably not for
you. The Twinkeyz was a psychedelic
pop garage band formed in Sacramento in 1977, by Walter Smith,
Tom Darling, Steve Bateman and myself (using the stage name Donnie
Jupiter). The Twinkeyz released three singles and an LP and played
about seven or eight gigs before the band broke up in 1980.
The Twinkeyz music consisted of slightly skewed song structures
held together with twisted pop hooks and treated with a more than
liberal dose of noise and effects. The Twinks never met
an effect box they didn't like. As lead singer and song writer,
I
indulged
in my interest in aliens, mysticism, E. S. P. Biblical monsters,
strange feelings, wild love, etc..
The whole sordid Twinkeyz story is exposed in a sixteen
page booklet accompanying the
1998 CD retrospective issued on the Anopheles label. Gathered
together on the CD are remixed remastered versions of all of our
studio recordings, including unreleased tracks, and an ear-splitting
set of live recordings.
